What We Do

We build vacuum thin film coating solutions for a variety of applications. Our vacuum thin film R2R systems are capable of coating many different flexible substrates and metal foils with a variety of thin film materials.

Quality

We sweat the details and implement the best practices for machine fabrication. From concept to mechanical design, analysis, testing, machining, and welding to electrical wiring and software; we control all aspects of systems fabrication in-house. We have a licensed professional engineer on staff and we can build to both UL and CE certifications. Our quality standards are unsurpassed in the vacuum R2R industry.

Mike Simmons is President & CEO of INTELLIVATION LLC which he founded in 2009. He is a leading expert in the vacuum roll coating field with special interest in machine design, plasma deposition systems, in-situ monitoring, and automation. Mike has designed, manufactured and installed a wide variety of equipment worldwide, including R2R, batch, and inline vacuum deposition systems, for production and R&D applications, as well as automation machinery. Through his focus on quality and efficiency, Mike has built INTELLIVATION to be one of the most vertically integrated vacuum deposition equipment manufacturers in the world today. He holds leadership positions and is active in industry associations including Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC), Association for Roll-To-Roll Converters (ARC, formerly AIMCAL), American Vacuum Society (AVS) and continuously supports the vacuum community through multiple initiatives.

Mike earned his mechanical engineering degree (BSME) from the University of Idaho where he graduated with honors, and is a licensed Professional Engineer. Mike has published multiple technical papers and presented at global conferences on Vacuum Coating Processes, including but not limited to Vacuum Technology and State of the Art Roll to Roll Equipment and Processes. Mike’s enthusiasm and passion for the vacuum industry are represented in the quality and expertise available in all the INTELLIVATION products and within the team.

Liz Josephson is VP, Commercial Operations including Sales, Marketing, and Operational support for INTELLIVATION. She joined INTELLIVATION in 2021 with decades of experience in the Vacuum Web Coating industry supplying equipment and supporting projects including medical, barrier, flexible electronics, security and packaging applications in the Americas and globally. Joining INTELLIVATION allows her to continue to support the broad range of industries and applications served by vacuum web coating and INTELLIVATION’s unique solutions. She looks forward to working with the dynamic and diverse talent at INTELLIVATION and supporting their growth and continued technology developments.

Liz has a BS in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University and has published multiple papers and has had several leadership positions in Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) and Association for Roll-To-Roll Converters (ARC, formerly AIMCAL).

Dr. Mark George is Vice President of Applications and the manager of Intellivation’s Application Lab.  Mark joins Intellivation with more than 25 years of experience in thin film and surface engineering process, product and business development.  He has directed development of process control improvements, novel metrology solutions, equipment design, and yield enhancements for Sputtering, Evaporation, LPCVD, and PECVD thin film technologies for applications in integrated circuits, thin film optics, thin film sensors, opto-electronics, photovoltaics and flexible barriers.   Mark has authored or co-authored over 75 technical papers and is the holder of 20 U.S and International Patents with several patents pending. 

 Dr. George holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University and an M.S from the University of Illinois.  He is an active member of the vacuum community and mentor for Intellivation’s team.

Nick Haase brings over a decade of experience in technical and detail-oriented engineering fields, with a specialty in vacuum coating equipment and technology since joining Intellivation in January 2023.  His impressive performance and dedication to excellence was rewarded in 2026 by being promoted to Engineering Manager at Intellivation, where he leads the mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering teams in designing high‑performance, state‑of‑the‑art vacuum web coating systems.

Nick received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Colorado Boulder and as a longtime resident of CO he enjoys the outdoors, photography, music and football.
